This weekend, I went to see the Minnesota Orchestra play a piece by contemporary American composer Adolphus Hailstork, a cello concerto by Robert Schumann, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, aka The Scottish Symphony. I like going to concerts and haven’t been in a long time. I’m not a special fan of any of these composers but wanted to see
same!!! i had gotten a little sick of it because the classical radio station plays it constantly...but seeing it live reminded me, right, they play it a lot because IT'S GREAT
I, too, have no idea how to write about music in any meaningful or critical way beyond "Sounds make brain feel good".
But I also miss classical music and big wind ensembles. The actual audio experience, yes, but also something about watching conductors and playing together with a group of like-minded teens with very little regard for what we were even playing.
(Our go-to band movie was Mr. Holland's Opus. Pretty sure we watched that at least once per year.)
Sounds make brain feel good!!! It's so simple and yet--
Mr Hollands Opus maybe a more sensible choice to show high schoolers? Extremely bold (but also great) to repeatedly show rowdy teens a movie where somebody says the words "nipples of Venus" lol
i love the scottish symphony!!!!!!!!!
